A police officer has been charged with alleged driving offences after a pursuit and crash in Sydney north west earlier this year.
About 12.37am on Friday 27 March 2026, a senior constable, attached to North West Metropolitan Region, attempted to stop a motorcycle on Woodriff Street, Penrith.
When the rider allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later.
The rider, a 17-year-old boy, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital for treatment of multiple injuries.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash commenced.
Upon release from hospital, the boy was charged with
– Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly (two counts),
– Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner,
– Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner,
– Motor bike rider (alone) not wear/secure fit approved helmet,
– Unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR, and
– Never licensed person drive vehicle on road.
He appeared before a children’s court on Saturday 28 March 2026 and remains before the courts.
Following an internal investigation, today (Thursday 24 September 2026), a 50-year-old man and current police officer, was issued a Court Attendance Notice charged with,
– Drive furiously in motor vehicle do/cause bodily harm,
– Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and
– Negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm).
He is due to appear before Penrith Local Court on Thursday 12 November 2026.
Police will allege that after the pursuit terminated, the officer continued to follow the motorcycle, before attempting to overtake and colliding with the rider on Batt Street, South Penrith.
His employment status is under review.
