Officer injured, five arrested, NSW

A police officer has been taken to hospital and five people have been arrested following a vehicle stop at Dee Why.

About 2pm today (Monday 31 December 2018), officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command attempted to stop a VW Amarok in a car park on Dee Why Parade.

Checks revealed the car was allegedly stolen.

It’s alleged the vehicle sped away and crashed into a parked car, injuring a woman sitting in the driver’s seat.

When police attempted to apprehend the occupants, they allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted the two officers.

OC spray and a Taser were deployed to subdue the group.

Three men, aged 27, 22 and 21, and two women, believed to be aged in their early 20s, were arrested and taken to Manly Police Station where they are assisting with inquiries.

A male senior constable was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for treatment after being punched multiple times to the face.

The woman sitting in the parked vehicle was treated at the scene for minor injuries and did not require hospitalisation.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
