Officer kicked in face during arrest at Glen Innes, NSW

A police officer is being treated for facial injuries after allegedly being kicked in the face while arresting a man at Glen Innes overnight.

Officers from New England Police District were patrolling Wentworth Street about 7.20pm yesterday (Friday 9 August 2019), when they saw a man allegedly in breach of an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO).

Officers arrested the 22-year-old man and were walking him to the police truck when he allegedly resisted, knocking one officer to the ground; that officer was then allegedly kicked in the face.

She was treated in Glen Innes Hospital for a suspected broken nose and was kept under observation for several hours before being released. It’s expected the officer will need further treatment next week.

The man has been charged with two counts of assault police, and one each of resist arrest and breach ADVO.

He was refused bail overnight to appear in Armidale Local Court today (Saturday 10 August 2019).
