Officers assaulted during arrest; man charged in Greystanes

A man will face court tomorrow charged after four police officers were injured, with two hospitalised, after an altercation with a man in Sydney’s west yesterday.

Just after 2.30pm (Thursday 19 November 2020), police were called to a home in Jasper Street, Greystanes, after reports a man was allegedly threatening to set the house alight.

Officers attached to the Cumberland Police Area Command confronted the man, who allegedly tried to grab a constable’s firearm. OC Spray was deployed, and the man allegedly continued to fight with police, resulting in the deployment of a taser.

The 64-year-old man was arrested after being subdued and taken to Fairfield Police Station. He was transferred to Liverpool Hospital under police guard for treatment.

Upon his return, he was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic), resist officer in execution of duty, and four counts of assault officer in execution of duty.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Saturday 21 November 2020).

Two constables attended Westmead Hospital for treatment for hand and arm injuries. Both were released a short time later.
