Authority news

Some of our members and Authority staff recently visited a coal mine as part of efforts to better understand the challenges and opportunities for reducing emissions in the mining sector. The Appin Mine, just south of Campbelltown NSW, is one of Australia’s largest underground coal operations. We learnt about the mine’s operations and emissions reduction activities, including efforts to lower fugitive methane emissions. We also heard about work completed over the last 20 years to reduce their emissions by over 50% (gas drainage, power generation, flaring etc). These visits and conversations help inform our independent, evidence-based advice to government.
