One arrested after Papakura burglary

Police have arrested one person following a burglary at a residential property in Papakura yesterday evening.

Counties Manukau South Area Commander, Inspector Joe Hunter, says Police received a report at around 5.35pm of a man allegedly entering a Clevedon Rd property by forcing his way inside.

“The offender confronted the victim and demanded the keys to her car.

“She has refused and the man has left the address on a bicycle.”

He says a short time later, Police located the man nearby.

“Initially he attempted to evade Police but was swiftly apprehended.

“Quick work from our staff has resulted in this offender being held accountable.

“We hope this gives our community reassurance that we will respond, investigate and bring offenders before the courts,” Inspector Hunter says.

“Our communities can help us respond by reporting incidents – where there is criminal or anti-social behaviour occurring right now, call 111.”

Other information can be reported to Police on 105, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

A 38-year-old man will appear in Papakura District Court today charged with burglary.
