A man has died following a multi-vehicle crash on the state’s Illawarra region overnight.
About 8.40pm (Sunday 20 September 2026), police were called to Memorial Drive, Corrimal, following reports of a three-vehicle crash.
Officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended and were told a sedan and a station wagon had collided at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Rothery Street before the station wagon left the roadway and crashed into trees.
Following the initial collision, the sedan collided with a third vehicle. Both vehicles then left the roadway and crashed into trees.
The driver of the sedan, a man believed to be aged in his 30s, was assisted by members of the public; however, he died before the arrival of emergency services.
He is yet to be formally identified.
The driver of the station wagon, an 18-year-old woman, was treated at the scene before being taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.
The driver and passenger of the third vehicle were assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, neither required hospital treatment.
A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
