One-stop shops in Success and Fremantle to improve convenience for customers

The Department of Human Services is bringing Medicare and Centrelink services together in Success and boosting staff numbers in Fremantle to improve the community’s access to government services.

From Monday 25 November, staff and services from the Booragoon Medicare Service Centre will relocate to the two nearest service centres in Wentworth Parade, Success and Queen Victoria Street, Fremantle.

Department of Human Services General Manager Hank Jongen said the move reflected the trend towards delivering more government services from a single point and the significant changes in the way customers are accessing services.

‘The approach of bringing the Department of Human Services programs together began in 2009 and now almost two-thirds of our 337 Service Centres offer the full range of face‑to‑face Centrelink and Medicare services from a single physical location,’ Mr Jongen said.

‘Demand for face-to-face Medicare services is decreasing as people take advantage of other claiming options, such as claiming at the doctors’ surgery.

‘Almost 99 per cent of all patient-claimed GP services are now being claimed electronically.’

‘While many people are choosing alternative service options to complete their business, staff will be available at both locations to provide face-to-face services to those who require more personalised or intensive support,’ Mr Jongen said.

Claims for common rebate items can be made through myGov in the Medicare online account, or using the Express Plus Medicare mobile app.

The Success and Fremantle One-Stop Shops will be open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
