Cairns residents wishing to express their grief and condolences at the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, can do so through an online condolence book, available at www.qld.gov.au/condolences.
Messages will be collated and forwarded to Government House Queensland for transmission to Buckingham Palace.
Staff at Council libraries will be available to provide assistance to members of the public who require help in accessing the online condolence book.
Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said that Queen Elizabeth will be remembered as the longest serving monarch of the British Empire, and the second longest monarch to have ever served in the world.
“She was epitome of servant leadership – where the leader becomes the servant of the people, and she, like no other, mastered that.
“Australia had strong affection for the Queen and respect for the Queen.
“And I am sure that the outpouring of respect and love will be well recorded in the media, and in people’s minds, in coming weeks.”
