With the completion of a high-visibility operation during Australia’s ultimate supercar endurance event at Bathurst’s iconic Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit, NSW Police are pleased with the conduct of the majority of racegoers over the weekend.
The police operation concluded yesterday (Monday 12 October 2026), after around 200,000 people – including competitors, officials and spectators – descended on Mount Panorama across the four-day event.
General Duties police attached to Chifley Police District, Western Region and Sydney Metropolitan Regions were assisted by specialist officers from the Operations Support Group (OSG), Dog Unit, PolAir, Licensing Police, Bicycle Unit, Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, State Operations and Emergency Management Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command throughout the operation.
Additional Traffic and Highway Patrol officers were also deployed across the weekend to target speeding, drink-driving, fatigue and dangerous driver behaviour.
The police operation targeted anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related crime to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all in the event and the surrounding township.
Throughout the traffic operation, officers conducted 6997 random breath tests resulting in 11 positive readings, 986 random drug tests resulting in 60 drug detections, and issued 389 traffic infringement notices. A total of 41 charges were laid for various traffic offences.
Operation Bathurst 2026 Commander, Assistant Commissioner Greg Moore APM, said it was a successful four-day event with racegoers generally conducting themselves safely and respectfully.
“It’s very pleasing that there were no major charges laid throughout the event, with most people behaving responsibly and looking out for one another,’ Assistant Commissioner Moore APM said.
“As travellers continue to head home, they are reminded drive to the conditions and show patience and courtesy to other road users.
“Police will continue to keep a close eye on our roads to ensure everyone is doing the right thing.”
