Police from Tara and Chinchilla have charged 11 people with 37 offences following the recently launched Operation Impede, focusing on drug and property crime within the local area.
Police executed four search warrants over the past two days, one resulting in the most significant drug seizure in Tara for the last few years.
It will be alleged more than 50 cannabis plants, more than one kilogram of dry cannabis, 345 cannabis seeds, eight LSD paper tabs and various drug paraphernalia were located during the search of a Kookaburra Drive address.
A 44-year-old Tara man has been charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of producing dangerous drugs, possess utensils, permit place and possess suspected tainted property.
He is expected to appear in Dalby Magistrates Court on October 13.
A further search of multiple properties in the South West District resulted in the location of small quantities of marijuana and an electronic conductive device.
A 31-year-old Tara man has been charged with three counts of obstruct police officer, two counts of possess utensils and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, assault police officer and commit public nuisance. He is expected to appear in Chinchilla Magistrates Court on October 1.
A 50-year-old Tara woman has been charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a weapon (electronic conductive device), possessing dangerous drugs, permitting use of place and possess utensils. She is expected to appear in Chinchilla Magistrates Court on September 17.
A 33-year-old Tara woman has been charged with one count each of obstruct police officer and possessing dangerous drugs. She is expected to appear in Chinchilla Magistrates Court on October 1.
A 20-year-old Tara man has been charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs and possess utensils. He is expected to appear in Dalby Magistrates Court on October 13.
A 17-year-old Tara man has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of suspected stolen property. He will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
A 50-year-old Chinchilla woman has been charged with possession dangerous drugs and fail to properly dispose of a needle.
She is expected to front the Chinchilla Magistrates Court on September 3.
A 39-year-old Wallumbilla man has been charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, possession of a knife in a public place, possess property suspected of having been used in the commission of a drug offence and two counts of possess utensils or pipes.
A 35-year-old man from Blythdale has been charged with possession of a restricted drug and two counts of possess utensils or pipes.
A 38-year-old Chinchilla man has been charged with possessing dangerous drugs.
They are due to face the Chinchilla Magistrates Court on September 17.
A 27-year-old woman from Chinchilla has been charged with two counts of possession of dangerous drugs and possess utensils or pipes.
She is scheduled to appear in the Chinchilla Magistrates Court on September 19.
Officer in Charge of Chinchilla Police Station, Sergeant Andrew Irvine said the operation was a cooperative effort between local police across the South West District.
“Rural towns are not immune to drug and property crimes and these types of operations will continue to keep our community safe,” Sergeant Irvine said.
“South West District police are committed to reducing dangerous drug harm in the community and we encourage anyone who may have information that can assist to contact Policelink, Crime Stoppers, or attend their local police station and speak with officers directly.”
This will be an ongoing operation partnering the Chinchilla and Tara Divisions in the disruption of Crime.
