Operation Pelion arrest in Katherine

Operation Pelion officers have arrested a 12-year-old male for alleged property offences.

The male and co-offenders forced entry into a school and caused damage to a door around 7:00pm on 12 March 2019. They fled the scene when the alarms were activated.

The group then smashed a window outside a hotel around 1:00am on 13 March 2019. They then entered the building into the restaurant and bar area where they broke cupboard doors and stole a quantity of alcohol.

The 12-year-old male exited the building and fled in an unknown direction. Police believe one of the co-offenders assaulted the manager before fleeing the scene.

The offenders returned to the school where they gained entry to the main office building around 4:00am on 13 March. They rummaged through the office and caused considerable damage before being disturbed by police and fleeing the scene.

The 12-year-old was arrested around 2:50pm yesterday. He was also arrested for a further three unlawful entries which occurred between 23 and 24 February 2019.

He was bailed with strict conditions and charged with:

  • 5x Unlawful Entry
  • 5x Damage to Property
  • 3x Stealing
  • 1x Attempted Unlawful Entry

Police are actively hunting the outstanding offenders who are known to police.
