Operation Pelion first arrest made – Katherine

Police in Katherine have arrested and charged a 17-year-old youth with a number of property offences dating back to December 2018.

It is alleged that the youth committed unlawful entries at six businesses in Katherine and Palmerston, and was involved with stealing a total of 10 vehicles from all businesses.

It is also alleged that the youth was involved in a police pursuit in one of the stolen vehicles.

Superintendent of the Katherine Division Daniel Shean said, although he evaded police at that time, the youth’s offending eventually caught up with him and so did the police.

“Operation Pelion is in full swing with this first arrest being made yesterday,” he said.

“Operation Pelion members will continue to work diligently to make further arrests for unlawful entries in Katherine.”

The youth is scheduled to appear in court today for the following charges:

  • Damage to property x 4
  • Unlawfully use a motor vehicle x 7
  • Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed x 4
