Opposition Leader Matthew Guy is missing link on job creation for Victorian construction workers

Opposition Leader Matthew Guy is missing the link on job creation for Victorian construction workers.

The Building Industry Group of Unions (BIG) applauds today’s announcement from the Andrews Government, that in excess of 10,000 jobs will be created to build the North East Link project.

New people are starting every week as work steps up on the project that will fix the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network. It already has more than 1000 people working on the project, with further opportunities provided for 100 apprentices, trainees and cadets.

This is in stark contrast to the recent statements from opposition leader Matthew Guy, who threatened the jobs and livelihoods of the construction industry with his ideological threat to review all major government projects, which could lead to the end of many major construction projects.

This undermines the contribution of tens of thousands of construction workers to the Victorian economy, each day.

The construction industry is a multibillion-dollar industry and is the backbone to this state’s economy. And it is vital in rebuilding Victoria as we navigate our way out of the pandemic.

The BIG is committed to working with the Andrews Government to deliver these 10,000 plus construction jobs and important infrastructure projects.

Matthew Guy cannot be trusted to lead this state or protect our jobs. With his recent comments a vote for the Libs is a vote for unemployment for tens of thousands of construction workers.

He clearly doesn’t value workers!

The BIG is committed to supporting and working with the Andrews Government to deliver these 10,000+ jobs to the hard-working Victorians that hold our state’s economy aloft.
