Kids rides, arts and crafts, award ceremonies and new citizens. It’s all happening at Cook Park this Australia Day.
Orange Mayor Reg Kidd is encouraging Orange residents to head over to Cook Park from 8am to enjoy a variety of food, drink, children’s activities and market stalls before the official ceremony begins at 10am.
“Let’s start off 2021 right, with a day where the community comes together to celebrate and be grateful for, our beautiful patch of the world,” he said.
“We can’t put COVID-19 completely to the backs of our minds as we will have to comply with a number of regulations to have the day go ahead, but let’s try and look to the future.
“Celebrating 19 people becoming citizens is a wonderful way to mark the occasion. We’ve also invited all of the new citizens who took the pledge of commitment virtually during last year to come along and be part of the ceremony.
“Many of us are lucky enough to be born here, but these people are choosing to become citizens, choosing to take on the rights and responsibilities which comes with being an Australian and I just think that’s truly remarkable.”
Visitors to Cook Park on Tuesday will need to enter through the middle gates in Summer Street, or Kite Street and must sign-in using the QR codes provided. The corner gates of the park will be locked. Once visitors have signed in, they will need to show the confirmation of their check in, on their phone, to staff and volunteers at the gates and receive a wrist band.
Children will be entertained by giant, inflatable slippery dips, a jumping castle and a bungee run.
The East Orange Physical Culture Club will perform, along with Colour City Dance School as well as the Orange Male Voice Choir, the Canobolas Highland Band and the City of Orange Brass Band.
