Our community is our future in Division 8

A $1.65 million streetscape on First Avenue in Maroochydore, an $800,000 renewal of the Maroochy River groynes and a $330,000 commitment to the Maroochy River Open Space Master Plan are among the Sunshine Coast Council 2019/20 Budget highlights for Division 8.

Division 8 Councillor Jason O’Pray said council’s $848 million budget included a diverse mix of valuable projects to help build a strong community.

“I’m really pleased for the residents I serve in Division 8 to see a strong commitment from council to protect our precious coastline and infrastructure through an $800,000 allocation towards the Maroochy River groyne renewal,” Cr O’Pray said.

“We’re committing $100,000 towards consultation and design for a playground upgrade at Waalum Park in Mt Coolum, where I know the local community will be very passionate about the outcome of this project.

“Council has also allocated $40,000 to renewal and replace equipment in the Friendship Park playground and funding has been allocated to improve, upgrade and renew park infrastructure in Wilkins Park at Pacific Paradise and Prestwick Drive at Twin Waters.

“We’ll also be renewing pathways along Ocean Drive and Esperance Drive at Twin Waters.

“The $330,000 allocation towards the implementation of Maroochy River Foreshore Open Space Master Plan will progress open space parkland, street calming and flood mitigation along Bradman Avenue, while $270,000 has been committed to renew the seawall along Bradman Avenue.

“As part of this project, we will also be renewing the pathway which runs under the Sunshine Coast Motorway bridge.

“The First Avenue Streetscape is an important project which will receive $1.65 million during the upcoming financial year and the $646,783 spend on upgrades to stormwater infrastructure on School Rd in Maroochydore which will help to alleviate potential future flooding during heavy rain events in this area.

“I’m also very pleased to see a $200,000 budget allocation to construct First Avenue cycleway infrastructure from Aerodrome Rd to Cornmeal Creek and

Division 8 highlights for the 2018/19 budget include:

  • 100,000 to upgrade Waalum Park Playground
  • $95,000 to construct a public amenity at the end of Sunset Strip, Marcoola
  • $84,000 to replace asphalt and concrete pathway along Ocean Drive, Twin Waters
  • $51,000 to replace pathway along Esperance Drive, Twin Waters
  • $1.65 million towards First Avenue Streetscape
  • $800,000 towards Maroochy Groyne renewal
  • $646,783 to upgrade stormwater infrastructure on School Rd, Maroochydore
  • $330,000 to implement the Maroochy River Foreshore Open Space Master Plan
  • $270,000 to renew seawalls on Bradman Avenue
  • $200,000 towards First Avenue cycleway from Aerodrome Rd to Cornmeal Creek
  • $40,000 to renew the Friendship Park playground at Maroochydore
  • $20,000 to renew fitness equipment in Twin Waters Drive Park
  • $9,500 to renew playground equipment in Wilkins Park, Pacific Paradise
  • $7,000 to renew seating in Prestwick Drive, Twin Waters
