From fortresses to dinosaur ball pits, elaborate other-worldly adventures await kids at ArtPlay this September school holidays.
Developed, designed and created by kids for kids, the Scrapatorium exhibition will kick off the school holiday fun, with a peek into multiple tiny realms created by 25 children aged eight to twelve years old.
Whether it’s a fortress of puzzles, a room packed full of colourful llamas, tunnels of shimmering ribbons or a ball pit with dinosaur bones, visual artist Sue Davis has helped young minds create a dazzling space with something for everyone.
Partnering with the Melbourne Fringe Festival, ArtPlay’s September school holiday program will also feature two free interactive experiences We are The Robots and Sonic Labyrinth, designed to challenge children’s senses and imaginations.
Created by Indonesian installation artists Mulyana, We are The Robots will allow children to enter ‘The Pod’ – a massive translucent dome-shaped performance space to create their own robots. Artists Avivav Endean and Justin Marshall’s Sonic Labyrinth invites children to choose their own adventures through a maze of special listening devices and mysterious objects.
The second week of the school holiday program will feature industrial designer Ben Paul and fashion designer Jake Nakashima-Edwards in The Future of Toys. Budding eco-champions are invited to reinvent their pre-loved toys to help save them from landfill.
The Future of Toys is part of ArtPlay’s New Ideas Lab where children co-create new arts projects with professional artists.
