Minister for Resources, Hon Keith Pitt MP, addressed the 2020 Developing Northern Australia conference

The Minister for Resources, Water and Northern Australia and the Assistant Minister for Northern Australia addressed the sixth Developing Northern Australia conference in Rockhampton, Queensland this month.

The Ministers outlined priorities for the northern Australia development agenda, highlighting business growth and job creation for the north’s sustainable economic development. They heard directly from stakeholders using science and innovation to drive sustainable economic development opportunities and address challenges for longer-term growth.

Ministers also welcomed a major research report from the Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia. The State of the North Report provides evidence-based insights and identifies challenges and opportunities to development.

Delegates heard from leaders across the mining, agriculture, health, education, transport and industry sectors. Over 80 speakers shared insights into how they are contributing to the economic agenda.

The Our North, Our Future: White Paper on Developing Northern Australia has set a 20 year policy framework to maximise the north’s full productive capacity.

Discussions at the conference reinforced the progress that has occurred over the first 5 years of the agenda. The challenge now will behow we leverage this investment for more targeted growth and build economic resilience. This will enable us to make the north an even more attractive place to live, work and do business.
