Overnight rejuvenation for Murray Street

Sections of Murray Street in Wonthaggi will undergo some essential maintenance in May, including asphalt renewal and line marking.

The $21,000 project will see work completed between Biggs Drive and McKenzie Street and is being fully funded by Bass Coast Shire Council.

The work will occur between 7.00pm and 3.00am on Wednesday, 8 May and Thursday, 9 May. It can be a challenge to deliver works without affecting road users and businesses; therefore, part of the works has been planned to occur throughout the night when traffic numbers are at their lowest.

As part of the maintenance, the existing pedestrian crossing paving will be removed and replaced with asphalt. This will be followed by line marking.

Other sections of the road will require asphalt maintenance or block patching. Some businesses that operate after hours may be impacted by these works, however access will be maintained to businesses during the construction period where appropriate.

The works will require the use of heavy plant and machinery.

Changed traffic conditions will include road closures at the pedestrian crossing area and road users are encouraged to seek alternate routes during this period. Every effort will be made to minimise the disruptions to motorists, residents and businesses along this section of road during the works.

The proactive renewal of the pavement surface ensures that Council’s road network continues to provide the appropriate level of service for road users.
