P&O Cruises Announces New Season in WA as Part of its 90th Celebrations

Sailing into a Summer Dream from 2025

Australia’s most popular cruise line, P&O Cruises, will today announce summer season sailing will be on its itinerary for Western Australia in 2025 as it celebrates 90 years of cruising Australia.

P&O Cruises President, Marguerite Fitzgerald, said there is no better place on earth to experience the phenomenal WA coastline than on board a P&O cruise ship.

“This year marks an important milestone for P&O as we celebrate 90 years of being an Australian icon,” Ms Fitzgerald said.

“Soon P&O guests locally, interstate and internationally, will be experiencing more of WA’s summer season, sand and sun.”

This announcement comes as the 2023 home-port season for Pacific Explorer draws to a close – having delighted guests with visits to Albany, Busselton, Fremantle, Geraldton, Exmouth, Broome and the Kimberley – and taking in the eclipse onboard just a few weeks ago.

Today, P&O will welcome more than 90 guests, suppliers and partners on board the magnificent Pacific Explorer at Fremantle Harbour as part of its national 90th anniversary Thank You Tour.

Representatives from the WA Government, Tourism Western Australia, and the City of Fremantle will celebrate the occasion with a colourful streamer throwing ceremony, the captain cutting a 90cm tall cake, local food and entertainment.

Tourism WA Managing Director, Carolyn Turnbull, said Carnival Australia and P&O Cruises continue to positively impact and boost WA tourism operators and the state’s economy.

“Tourism WA is excited to continue its partnership with P&O Cruises, and we recognise how important these visits are to local communities and small businesses across our state,” Ms Turnbull said.

“Last year’s launch of Western Australia’s new global tourism brand, Walking on a Dream, invited people in our key domestic and international markets to come and immerse themselves in the dreamlike magic of this ancient land.

“We are excited at the prospect of cruise tourism allowing people to not just walk but sail into a dream on their next visit to Western Australia.”

Ms Fitzgerald said P&O Cruises proudly supports local WA suppliers across a range of industries, including farmers and distributors supplying 250-300 pallets to the Pacific Explorer.

During her two-month home season in WA, 40,000 litres of fresh milk and 100,000 kilograms of local produce are used on board, including:

  • 30,000 kgs of melons
  • 10,000 kgs of tomatoes
  • 9,000 kgs of potatoes
  • 8,000 kgs of lettuce
  • 6,000 kgs of carrots
  • 4,000 kgs of apples
  • 3,000 kgs of eggplant

“To all those who have supported us over the past 90 years, we say thank you WA and cheers to sailing together for many decades to come,” Ms Fitzgerald concluded.
