P-plate drivers street racing 45km/h over limit, NSW

A man and a teenager – both provisional drivers – will appear in court next month after allegedly street racing in Sydney’s south west.

Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol South West were conducting patrols on Smithfield Road, Fairfield West, about 11pm Wednesday (20 January 2021), when they detected a Toyota Prado allegedly being driven at 120km/h in a 60km/h zone.

Officers also saw a blue BMW travelling alongside the Toyota, allegedly travelling more than 120km/h in a 60km/h zone as it passed the Toyota.

Police stopped both vehicles and spoke to the driver of the Toyota – a 29-year-old man – who is a P2 licence holder, and the driver of the BMW – a 17-year-old man – who is a P1 licence holder.

Both drivers were issued Court Attendance Notices for street racing, and exceed speed limit by more than 45km/h. Their licences have been suspended.

They are both due to appear at Fairfield Local Court next month (Tuesday 9 February 2021).
