P-plater caught travelling 54km/h above speed limit

A P-plater will have his licence disqualified for a period of four months after police detected him travelling 54km/hr above the speed limit on Forth Road at Don earlier today.

The 18-year-old has been given a fine of $1,121.25 and 6 demerit points.

His vehicle will be clamped for a period of 28 days.

Inspector Shane LeFevre said drivers are reminded that speed remains one of the top contributors to serious and fatal crashes in Tasmania.

“Speed limits exist for a reason, and anyone who drives above the legal limit is putting themselves and others at serious risk,” he said.

“Please slow down and drive to the conditions so we can prevent any more lives being lost on our roads.”
