Paid paramedics based in Harvey for first time

  • Paid paramedics based in Harvey for the first time, funded by the Cook Government
  • Sub-centre to operate new hybrid paramedic model to further support volunteer base
  • Delivers on Cook Government commitment to boost ambulance response capabilities in the bush

For the first time ever, two paid paramedics are now based in Harvey as part of the Cook Government’s plan to bolster ambulance services in the regions.

Under this initiative, the Harvey sub-centre will also operate a new hybrid paramedic model, with the new professional paramedics, set to start on 15 October.

It is anticipated the new hybrid model will help improve ambulance response times and provide more support to the highly dedicated local volunteer base and broader community.

The additional paramedics have been funded as part of the State Government’s modernised contract with St John WA, and form part of the Cook Government’s broader commitment to boosting ambulance response capabilities in the bush.

Under the new contract, Geraldton has already welcomed four paramedics with Margaret River and Esperance set to join in the coming months.

As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“The State Government is delivering on our commitment to bolster ambulance response capabilities in country WA.

“Harvey was identified as a priority area for us and now the community will benefit from more paramedic support than ever before.

“Overall, the Cook Government is delivering an additional 31 FTE of paid paramedics in country WA – a significant boost that will go a long way to improving ambulance response capabilities in the bush.”

As stated by Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke:

“The Cook Government ensuring paid paramedics are deployed to Harvey for the very first time is a huge boost for our community.

“The sub-centre will also transition to a hybrid model that will provide even more support to our highly dedicated volunteer ambulance officers.”
