Palmerston on move

The Northern Territory Division of the Property Council of Australia collectively represents billions of dollars of commercial investment in the Northern Territory. The property sector has a larger footprint on the Northern Territory economy than any other industry.

Northern Territory Executive Director Ruth Palmer said as an industry, we not only have a keen interest, but also a financial interest in the future development of the Northern Territory.

“We appreciate the NT Planning Commission’s effort to make progress on the Central Palmerston Area Plan.

“We have been and will continue to be a strong advocate for projects and the commercial and cultural opportunities in Palmerston and to encourage the responsible development, reinvigoration and opportunity of the Palmerston CBD.

“We have long advocated the view that the Palmerston CBD needs to be the primary hub for the Palmerston region.

“Strategic planning is important but positive reforms are also needed to ensure the city’s sustainability and future growth.

“We need to be looking at policy opportunities such as a hierarchy of commercial and retail that would support these area plans and ensure revitalisation of our CBDs.

“We need to be looking at creating spaces for the community to enjoy and create an attractive, vibrant and energetic space for the growing number of residents who are calling Palmerston their home.

“With the ever-increasing number of families that are living in the Palmerston region it is imperative that the city has amenities for families and children of all ages.

The Property Council is working on a formal submission to the Palmerston Central Area Plan.
