Parents welcome back democracy sausage

The ACT Council of Parents & Citizens Associations – the peak body for public school parents – welcomes back the democracy sausage, in a COVID safe way.

Council President Ms Kirsty McGovern-Hooley says parents are pleased restrictions are easing.

“Council has been advocating hard in the last couple of days, so P&Cs can have the opportunity to offer democracy sausages at polling booths in schools on election day.”

“We’ve been working constructively with the Education Directorate and the ACT Chief Health Officer to allow the democracy sausage to be served on election day in a COVID safe way.”

“This year has been a difficult one for school communities, and its great that P&Cs have the chance to fundraise with the community at such an important event. We expect that local communities will be both familiar and comply with COVID safe requirements, such as social distancing and not gathering in groups.”

“Council will be working with participating P&Cs to develop a COVID safe plan to ensure election day barbecues are compliant with ACT Health directives.”

“For those voting on election day, please show your support to your local school by purchasing a democracy sausage.”
