Parramatta celebrates local talent with Sydney Writers’ Festival events

Be immersed in a world of words and sounds with a unique storytelling event presented by Parramatta Artists’ Studios at one of Australia’s most significant heritage sites, as a part of this year’s Sydney Writers’ Festival.

Set on the grounds of the historical Parramatta Female Factory precinct on Thursday 29 April, Words/Sounds combines the works of female and non-binary writers and electronica artists.

“Western Sydney is a thriving cultural and creative hub that’s producing an incredible number of talented writers, artists and performers,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.

“Sydney Writers’ Festival is a wonderful opportunity for us to highlight and support our local talent and introduce them to new and broader audiences, as well as inspire future generations.”

This free event is delivered in partnership with The Finishing School (a collective of women writers) and supported by The City of Parramatta with help from The Writing and Society Research Centre at Western Sydney University. It features electronica artists from The New Age Noise Collective and a special guest appearance by writer Kavita Bedford.

The writers and musicians involved in the program include Xiaoran Shi, Ailsa Liu, Brittany Searle, Hajer, Yumna Kassab, Liana Molina, Liliana Occhiuto, Zarlasht Sarwari, Vivian Pham, Felicity Castagna and Faith Chaza.

The City of Parramatta is also hosting a number of other Sydney Writers’ Festival events at Riverside Theatres and through its library branches, including author talks and a live radio show (sold out).
