Passenger charged after pursuit at Narrabri, NSW

A man has been charged following a police pursuit in the state’s north west.

About 9.30pm yesterday (Thursday 21 May 2020), officers from Oxley Police District attempted to stop a Mazda MPV travelling west on Yarrie Lake Road, Narrabri.

The vehicle allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

Officers will allege in court that the vehicle reached speeds in excess of 170km/h in a marked 100km/h zone before it slowed down and pulled onto the shoulder of Yarrie Lake Road where a man was seen to jump out of the front passenger seat and run from police.

Shortly after, the vehicle was stopped on Bridge Street and the driver, a 32-year-old woman, was arrested and charged. She remains before the court.

Three children – a four-month-old girl and two boys, aged two and seven – were in the car at the time. The two-year-old was allegedly unrestrained.

Following further inquiries, the passenger, a 30-year-old man, was arrested after a short foot pursuit in Ugoa Street, Narrabri, about 9.55am today (Friday 22 May 2020),

The man was taken to Narrabri Police Station and charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic) and resist officer in execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Friday 22 May 2020).
