Passenger with drug supply after driver caught speeding, NSW

A passenger has been charged with drug supply after a vehicle was caught speeding in the state’s south yesterday.

About 1.50pm (Monday 12 December 2022), officers attached to Murray River Highway Patrol Command were conducting speed enforcement on the Hume Highway, Holbrook, when they detected a grey Hyundai i30 allegedly travelling at 152km/h in a 110/km sign-posted area.

Police stopped the vehicle at Little Billabong, and spoke with the driver, a 21-year-old woman, and her 23-year-old female passenger.

Police will allege in court that the passenger attempted to hide something under her seat, with a search of the vehicle uncovering a backpack allegedly containing almost 100 MDMA tablets, as well as quantities amphetamine, cocaine and prescription medication.

Both were arrested and taken to Holbrook Police Station, where the passenger was charged with three counts of possess prohibited drug, two counts of supply prohibited drug – greater than indictable quantity, and one count of possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance.

She was granted conditional bail to appear in Holbrook Local Court on Thursday 19 January 2023.

The driver was issued an infringement notice for speeding.
