Paws to pick up your pet’s poop

Furry residents are leaving smelly surprises behind on popular walking paths, prompting Townsville City Council to remind locals to scoop their dogs’ poop when out and about.

Community Safety and Environment chairperson Margie Ryder said everyone has to do their part to help keep Townsville clean.

“Taking your dog for a daily walk is important, however it’s also important to pick up their poo on walks so other walkers can enjoy our footpaths and parks, including at popular walking areas like Riverway and Castle Hill,” Cr Ryder said.

“An easy way to remember to bring doggy bags is to either tie them to your pet’s lead or use a doggy bag holder that clips onto your pet’s collar.”

Cr Ryder said it was also important to keep dogs on a leash when walking them.

“Keeping your dog on a leash when you’re out and about helps make our city safer for everyone,” she said.

“There are designated off-leash areas across Townsville. If your dog needs a little extra exercise, take them to an off-leash area.

“Remember that if your dog is in an off-leash area, you must remove your dog if it becomes aggressive or bothers other dogs.”
