Pedestrian access and safety improvements at the Council Chamber

Works to improve pedestrian safety and access outside the Council Chamber at 8 Inglesby Road will start from mid-May.

Construction is expected to take 2 weeks. Works include:

  • Bollards. We’ll place 7 bollards around the entrance to the Council Chamber to provide a protective barrier between vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Footpath. The current path will be extended to create a safer and accessible crossing route.
  • Wheel stops. We’ll place these in the visitor and accessible car parking spaces opposite the Council Chamber. These boundaries will prevent a vehicle from moving into the new footpath.

Why we’re doing these works

We have a duty of care to protect public spaces in Boroondara. We continuously review these spaces to make sure our staff and community are safe. This project is one of many proactive safety upgrades being undertaken across Boroondara over the current financial year.

Access during works

Access to and from the Council Chamber entrance will remain open.

The crossing outside the entry point to the Council Chamber will be closed.

We kindly ask that visitors use the other crossing opposite the customer service building at 8 Inglesby Road, Camberwell, during this time.

Car parking impacts

Road closures, if required, will be kept to a minimum with detours in place.

The existing visitor and accessible parking spaces opposite the Council Chamber entrance will be closed.

Please use the other parking near the customer service building at 8 Inglesby Road during this time.

There will be some noise works during construction on Monday to Friday from 7 am to 3 pm. As always, we will minimise disruption where possible.
