The delivery of one of the City of Parramatta’s biggest ever infrastructure projects heads the list of infrastructure achievements from the first year of Council’s four-year plan.
Lord Mayor Cr Sameer Pandey said the $136 million PHIVE building was an architectural icon that reflected the changing face of Parramatta’s CBD.
“PHIVE is not just a bold addition to our CBD. It’s a community, cultural and civic hub for our fast-growing city,” Cr Pandey said.
“Since PHIVE opened last September, it’s had more than 250,000 visitors and is fast developing into an urban loungeroom on the edge of Parramatta Square that the entire community can enjoy.”
Cr Pandey said Council was proud of its delivery record over the last 12 months which included road and street upgrades, improvements to parks and sporting facilities and continued progress on major projects like the new Parramatta Aquatic Centre and the Parramatta Square Public Domain.
“We are investing right across our City in the infrastructure and services we need to deliver on our vision of a great global city that is welcoming, thriving, green, innovative and accessible,” Cr Pandey said.
“For locals, that means access to great community infrastructure that make our city the best place to live, work and play.”
Other projects completed over the past 12 months include:
- Good and Bridge Streets (Rosehill Ward): An $8.4 million upgrade of Good and Bridge Streets in Granville has transformed the area into a smart street precinct with self-compacting solar bins, humidity and temperature sensors which trigger automatic misting, digital screens and mobile charging stations.
- Phillip Lane (Parramatta Ward): The transformation of Phillip Lane into a shared public space with art and street dining has begun with the installation of permanent creative lighting known as ‘Burra burawa burring gili’ (‘eel above countless generations of starlight’). The eel-inspired lighting is programmable to display different colours and themes.
- Don Moore Netball Courts (North Rocks Ward): North Rocks’ Don Moore netball courts have had a major revamp including new court asphalt and line marking, competition grade goal posts and hoops.
- Acacia Park (Dundas Ward): A major upgrade of Telopea’s Acacia Park – part of a $5 million revamp of the suburb’s green spaces funded through the NSW Government’s Precinct Support Scheme – delivered a new walking track with blocks for strength training and resting, an accessible platform with a great view of Parramatta’s CBD and new play equipment.
- Boronia Grove Community Mural (Epping Ward): The northern wall of Epping’s Boronia Grove Community Centre has come alive thanks to a mural designed by artist Damian Mitchell in collaboration with locals.
