Pilbara Drug Operation

Karratha Detectives with the assistance of South Hedland Detectives and local police, have charged a number of people after conducting operations targeting the possession and supply of methylamphetamine in the Pilbara area.

As a result of information received from members of the community, three operations have been run simultaneously and jointly in the Karratha area since late last year. These operation have predominately been focused on criminal syndicates allegedly involved in the dealing of methylamphetamine and other illicit drugs that cause harm to the local community.

On Saturday 26 January 2019, two men were seen by detectives at Karratha airport. As they were approached, it is alleged one of the men threw a package in a bin. The bin was searched and a package containing 112 grams of Methylamphetamine was located. Both men were arrested and charged.

The operation culminated in a coordinated arrest phase across the Pilbara District which began on Tuesday 5 February 2019. During this phase the results included:

• The execution of eight search warrants in Karratha, Millars Well, Bulgarra and Nickol.

• 14 people being arrested and charged with a total of 280 charges.

• The seizure of drugs and cash.

Our efforts don’t stop here. We won’t tolerate illicit drugs being dealt in our local community and we will continue our efforts targeting those who are involved.”
