The Kempsey Shire has a fresh and renewed strategy in place to achieve the hopes, aspirations and dreams of the community for the next 20 years.

A final draft of the 2042: Your Future Community Strategic Plan was endorsed by Kempsey Shire Council on Tuesday at the April Ordinary Meeting following an extensive period of community engagement and stakeholder collaboration to develop the plan.

Kempsey Shire Council Mayor, Leo Hauville, explained that the 2042: Your Future has been compiled in collaboration with the community helping to identify needs, values and expectations for the Shire over the next 20 years.

“The Community Strategic Plan gives residents, businesses and all government and non-government service agencies a really clear guide to where the people of our Shire want to get to,” said Cr Hauville.

“While everything in the CSP can’t be delivered by Council it guides the Integrated Planning and Reporting suite of documents, which outlines Council’s short, medium and long-term goals for the shire including the Long Term Financial Plan and the yearly Operational Plan.”

The overall priorities and hopes for the next 20 years are captured in a community driven vision statement that is unique to the Kempsey Shire

Kempsey Shire Council General Manager, Craig Milburn, said there are many ways community can make this ambitious, long-term vision a reality and help the shire progress in leaps and bounds.

“In terms of achieving this vision for the future, 2042: Your Future outlines four key focus areas that shows us how we are going to achieve the vision,” said Mr Milburn.

The four focus areas:

  • Enhancing and protecting our natural and built environment
  • Boosting and evolving Kempsey Shire’s prosperous economy
  • Creating and celebrating a supportive, connected community
  • Valuing, informed leadership that engages and inspires the community

“2042: Your Future belongs to the community and Council is looking forward to working closely with residents and stakeholders to make the Kempsey Shire an even better place to live, visit and invest.”

The community will be able to view 2042: Your Future and accompanying Integrated and Reporting documents from midday Wednesday 27 April on Your Say Macleay
