Plans announced for Newton Boulevard extension

The State Government has announced plans to extend Newton Boulevard at Munno Para.

Yesterday, the State Government announced plans to connect Newton Boulevard to Stebonheath Road at Munno Para West.

The extension is part of plans by the government to build an additional 249 homes in Playford Alive.

City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said the connection will provide an alternative east-west corridor for commuters in the growing suburb.

“Council has been advocating for the connection of Newton Boulevard to Stebonheath Road for a number of years,” the Mayor said. “It is pleasing to see the State Government integrate this into their plans.

“We know that this particular area of our city can be problematic for road users, with congestion at peak times.

“This planned connection improves access for Munno Para West residents to Mark Oliphant College, the local shopping centre, Playford Alive Town Park and other community facilities.”

Council’s own redesign of Stebonheath Road, which is in its final stages of construction, allows for the connection of Newton Boulevard to the upgraded road.

“When designing Stebonheath Road we took a long-lens approach and future-proofed the upgrade to allow for a potential connection with Newton Boulevard,” the Mayor said.

“We look forward to working with the State Government to bring these improvements to our growing community, including understanding timeframes for construction.”
