Camden Council has endorsed plans to support the future growth of the Oran Park Town Centre, paving the way for the proposal to be considered by the NSW Government.
At its Ordinary Meeting last night, Council endorsed a Planning Proposal and draft amendments to the Oran Park Precinct Development Control Plan (DCP), which aim to expand the town centre and increase maximum building heights in selected locations.
The proposal would expand the town centre, creating capacity for approximately 100,000 square metres of additional commercial floor space. This, in turn, would support more businesses, jobs and services for the growing community.
The proposal also includes increased maximum building heights across parts of the town centre, with taller buildings proposed in selected locations.
The Planning Proposal has been independently assessed and found to have strategic and site-specific merit. It was also supported by the Camden Local Planning Panel to progress to the next stage of the planning process.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the endorsement was an important step in planning for the future of one of the fastest-growing centres in South Western Sydney.
“Oran Park is an award-winning masterplanned community and its growth isn’t over yet,” she said.
“It’s important we plan ahead to ensure the town centre can meet the needs of our community now and in the future. This proposal is about creating opportunities for more local jobs, businesses, services and community facilities, while supporting the long-term vision for the suburb.
“It’s also very important essential infrastructure keeps pace as this growth happens. Council will continue to strongly advocate to the NSW Government for critical transport infrastructure, including the full North South Metro line and upgrades to the surrounding road network, to ensure Camden remains connected and supported.”
Council’s endorsement does not mean the proposal has been approved. The Planning Proposal will now be forwarded to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure for Gateway Determination. If Gateway approval is received, the proposal will be placed on public exhibition, giving the Camden community the opportunity to review the plans and provide feedback before any final decisions are made.
