The Crisafulli Government is delivering the next round of Play On! Sports Vouchers, to deliver cost of living relief Queensland families can rely on, after supporting more than 293,800 Queensland kids in the program’s first year.

The record number of vouchers has helped remove barriers to kids getting involved in sport right across Queensland and is part of the Crisafulli Government doing its bit to ease national affordability pressures.

Soccer, rugby league and netball were the most popular sports for kids in Queensland, attracting the highest number of voucher participants, with:

  • 52,529 soccer players
  • 33,972 rugby league players
  • 27,369 netball players

More than 3,750 Queensland sporting clubs are now accepting Play On! Sports Vouchers, with almost 2,500 clubs offering disability programs.

Children and young people with a disability received 13,917 Play On! Sports Vouchers, a 33 per cent increase compared with the previous voucher program, while 129,050 girls received a voucher, an increase of 30 per cent.

Families will soon get the chance to apply for the next round of Play On! Sports Vouchers, with applications opening on Monday, 27 July.

The vouchers are valued up to $200 and help reduce membership fees and participation costs for kids aged between 5 and 17.

Parents can choose to use the vouchers for either summer or winter sport, while there will remain a dedicated allocation for children living with a disability, and for kids living in regional and remote areas.

The former Labor Government didn’t fund sports vouchers into the future, with their last budget highlighting the fact it was never their plan to continue them.

The Crisafulli Government has delivered ongoing funding for the junior sports vouchers, which the LNP created a decade ago, to make it easier and more affordable for children to play sport regardless of the season.

Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said the program had been embraced by Queensland families.

“The Crisafulli Government is backing Queensland families by easing cost-of-living pressures and helping more kids get involved in sport through the Play On! Sports Vouchers,” Minister Mander said.

“It’s exactly why we’ve locked in funding for the program, with $62.5 million each year for four years.

“It’s great to see strong uptake of the vouchers from outback Queensland to the Cape, as well as more girls and children with disability using their vouchers to participate in sport.”
