Pointing you in right direction

Installation of a new series of wayfinding signs for pedestrians and cyclists in Warrnambool is now complete.

Visitors and residents will benefit from 16 new signs placed strategically along key walking and cycling routes across the city, including the foreshore and around Lake Pertobe.

Eight of the signs provide directions while the remaining signs feature maps that align with major landmarks so the viewer can quickly orientate themselves.

“The new signs provide information on the walking and cycling loops in Warrnambool, including travel times and nearby public amenities,” Warrnambool Mayor, Cr Tony Herbert said.

“They’re a great reference for residents and, in the future, for visitors to Warrnambool.

“Under stage 3 COVID-19 restrictions, people are permitted to leave home for exercise. Walking or riding is a great way to stay fit and healthy while we’re otherwise confined to our homes.

“Looking forward, the signage will be a fabulous addition to the visitor experience once government travel restrictions are lifted.

“This projects aligns with the goals of our Council Plan and the community plan, Warrnambool 2040, which both talk about the need to have a healthy and connected community.”

Saputo Dairy Australia (SDA) helped to cover the cost of the signage, with sponsorship of $25,000 provided through its Legacy Program.

“We have an ongoing commitment to support the communities where we operate, including Warrnambool and its surrounding regions,” said Gerard Lourey, SDA’s Director Operations.

“Through our Legacy Program, Saputo sponsors projects that can meaningfully improve the wellbeing of local communities through investment in sport and health facilities that offer a healthier lifestyle for families.

“The wayfinding signage will encourage physical activity by helping locals and visitors to navigate between key foreshore destinations, as well as discover new attractions and locate amenities while out exploring.

“We are pleased to support Warrnambool City Council to deliver this project, which aligns with our ongoing promise to never stop building a future we can all be proud of,” Mr Lourey said.
