Police appeal after five-year-old boy assaulted in Glebe

Police are appealing for information after a five-year-old boy was punched in the face by a man while walking in Glebe yesterday.

About 4.20pm (Tuesday 20 October 2020), the five-year-old and his nine-year-old brother were holding hands with their grandmother while walking along the footpath of Bridge Street towards Ross Street at Glebe.

Police have been told a man – unknown to them – walked towards the trio and has punched the child in the face as he walked past.

The boy fell to the ground and the man continued walking in an easterly direction towards Bridge Road.

The grandmother assisted the children home and contacted police to report the incident.

The child received bruising to the chin and did not require any medical assistance.

The man is described as having a dark complexion, about 170cm tall with a thin build. He has a long face with a dark beard and short dark hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark coloured hooded jumper, dark long pants and joggers.

Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command commenced an investigation and are appealing for anyone with information, or has dashcam vision of the incident, to contact Leichhardt Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 188 333 000.
