Police appeal after women targeted in Belmore

Police have released CCTV footage as they continue to investigate an assault and several stalking incidents in Sydney’s south west late last year.

About 11pm on Saturday 8 December 2018, a 31-year-old woman left Belmore Railway Station and began walking on Leylands Parade, Belmore, when she noticed a man walking closely behind her. Fearing for her safety, the woman ran away.

Early on Monday 10 December 2018, the same woman was grabbed from behind as she walked along Leylands Parade.

The attacker – believed to be the same man – covered the woman’s mouth and attempted to drag her towards a unit complex, before she was able to escape and call for help. The man ran from the scene.

Both incidents were reported to officers at Campsie Police Station and an investigation commenced.

A review of CCTV footage has revealed a second woman was also followed along Leylands Parade just before the attack.

After leaving Belmore Railway Station, the woman appears to become aware she is being followed and seeks refuge in the front yard of a house.

The man walks past the house, before turning back and heading towards the station.

The woman is yet to be identified and police would like to speak with her.

Further inquiries show the same man was also seen on Saturday 22 December 2018 at Belmore Railway Station following a number of women over a two-hour period; however, he has not been seen at the station since.

Detectives have now released CCTV vision of a man they believe may be able to assist with inquiries and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
