Police appeal for witnesses to suspicious fire in Chippendale

Police are appealing for public assistance following a suspicious fire in Sydney’s inner-city.

About 1:30pm today (Saturday 9 May 2020), emergency services were called to Pine Street at Chippendale where they found a caravan alight.

The fire was extinguished; however, the caravan was destroyed.

Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

The caravan was empty at the time and no one was injured.

An investigation into the fire is underway. Initial inquiries suggest it was deliberately lit.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed it, or who has mobile phone footage, to contact police.
