Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash in Melton this afternoon.
Investigators have been told the driver of a van travelling east on the Western Freeway collided into the rear of a truck which was stationary in built-up traffic just west of Hopkins Road about 4.45pm.
The male driver and sole occupant of the van, died at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a man in his late 50s, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
