Police are responding to fatal crash – Bass Highway at Wynyard

Sadly, a 56 year old female motorcyclist from Victoria has died following a multiple vehicle crash on the Bass Highway at Wynyard this morning.

Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene of the crash, which involved four motorcycles and one vehicle, about 9.05am.

The woman was riding a black Harley Davidson motorcycle travelling west on the Bass Highway at Wynyard.

She collided with a black Kia station wagon being driven east by a 65 year man from Queensland.

Initial investigations suggest that the motorcycle crossed onto the incorrect side of the road, into the path of the Kia. The cause of the crash would appear to be inattention at this stage.

Four people were taken to the North-West Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Bass Highway was closed between Calder Road and Mt Hicks Road for several hours to allow police and emergency services to manage the scene.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Police crash investigators would like to hear from anyone who may have seen either vehicle prior to the incident or who may have actually witnessed the crash.

Anyone with information should contact Burnie Police on 131444.
