Police Are Responding To Fatal Crash – Bywong

A man has died after being struck by a truck in the state’s south.

About 9.40pm yesterday (Thursday 2 September 2026), emergency services were called to the Federal Highway, near Bungendore Road, Bywong, about 25km northeast of Canberra.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District attended and found a pedestrian has been struck by a semi-trailer truck.

The pedestrian – a man believed to be aged in his 30’s – died at the scene.

The driver – a man aged in his 30s– was taken to Canberra Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established and investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the crash with the assistance of the Crash Investigations Unit.

Federal Highway is closed with diversions in place on Old Federal Highway. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
