Sadly, a woman in her 80s died at the scene of a single vehicle crash in Sandy Bay this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the crash about 4.05pm, after a white MG reportedly exited a service station on Sandy Bay Road, and struck a pole in the vicinity of Queen Street.
The woman, who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was provided medical assistance at the scene but she was sadly declared deceased.
Sections of Queens Street and Sandy Bay Road were closed while a crash investigation was conducted at the scene.
At this stage it is believed the crash may be the result of a medical episode.
Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and loved one of the woman.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
