Police are responding to serious crash at Katherine

Police Officers from Northern Traffic Operations are investigating a single vehicle crash which occurred approximately 43 kilometres south of Katherine on the Stuart Highway around 11:00pm last night.

Following the collision with a tree, 56-year-old male was able to free himself from the vehicle and waved down a passing motorist for assistance.

Katherine Police, NTFRS, and St John Ambulance attended. Two women were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by NTFRS. All three passengers were conveyed to Katherine Hospital.

The 56-year-old male driver and 54-year-old female passenger sustained minor injuries. The second female passenger, aged 39, sustained serious injuries and was transferred to the Royal Darwin Hospital.

Investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
