Police are responding to serious crash – Midland HIghway, Oatlands

Shortly after 5.10pm on Saturday the 25th July 2020, Emergency Services Personnel (Police, Ambulance, SES and Tas Fire Service ) responded to a 2 vehicle head on collision on the Midlands Highway, just south of the Northern entrance to Oatlands.

Investigations have established that a red 2014 Kia Rio sedan was travelling north on the Midland Highway, when it crossed on to the incorrect side of the highway, crashing head on with a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander that was travelling south on the Midland Highway.

A female driver aged 28 yrs and the only occupant of the Kia Rio was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter with serious injuries. She is in a stable condition.

A male driver age 52 yrs and only occupant of the Mitsubishi Outlander was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital with relatively minor injuries.

Sen. Sgt John Parker of Oatlands Police Station said that at this stage inattention appears to be the cause of the crash.

The Midland Highway was closed for approximately 3 hours with traffic diverted through the township of Oatlands.
