Police Arrest Driver After Crash At Morphettville

A driver was arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash at Morphettville overnight.

Police were called to Oaklands Road, Morphettville at 1.15am on Sunday 16 August by reports a car had hit a traffic light at a pedestrian crossing.

When patrols arrived, the Subaru was still at the scene, with heavy damage, but the driver was nowhere to be seen.

Police made inquiries and arrested the alleged driver at his Panorama home address a short time later.

The 23-year-old Panorama man was taken to hospital as a precaution and a sample of his blood was taken for analysis. He was arrested and charged with driving without due care, failing to stop at the scene of a crash, property damage and hinder police.

The arrested driver was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 29 September.

Further investigations identified the same vehicle had been involved in another crash just moments earlier.

It had collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Cliff Street and Diagonal Road and continued driving.

Fortunately, the driver of the RAV4 and his two passengers were not injured in the crash.

Both vehicles were towed from the crash scenes with extensive damage.

Investigations are continuing.
