Police arrest driver after spitting on police, South Australia

A man will face court after allegedly assaulting a police officer at the border checkpoint at Hynam this morning.

At around 10am on Thursday 4 June, police spotted a grain truck travelling west (from Victoria) on the Wimmera Highway approaching the checkpoint at speed. The driver was stopped at the checkpoint and while police were speaking to him regarding his manner of driving, he became abusive and spat on one of the officers striking him on the hand and uniform.

The 63-year-old from Victoria was arrested and charged with aggravated assault police, resist police and offensive language. He has been refused bail and will appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court via video link later today.
