Police arrest five after stolen vehicle evades police in Yallourn North

Five people have been charged after a vehicle evaded police in the Latrobe area on 21 July.

A Mercedes, alleged to have been stolen in Craigieburn overnight, was observed in the Morwell area about 9.30am.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop and drove off toward Yallourn North.

The vehicle was monitored by Air wing and was seen to stop on Pipe Line Track, stop sticks were deployed and the vehicle came to a stop on Brown Coal Mine Road.

Police approached the vehicle, and it is alleged one of the occupants threatened an officer with a tomahawk from inside the vehicle.

The five occupants of the car were arrested at the scene.

A 14-year-old Morwell boy has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, burglary, assault/resist police and has been bailed to appear in a children’s court at a later date.

An 18-year-old Mooroopna woman has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, handling stolen goods and drug offences and will face a remand hearing tonight.

A 19-year-old Shepparton man has been charged with theft of motor vehicle and has been bailed to appear in Latrobe Magistrates’ Court on 18 October.

A 16-year-old Meadow Heights boy has been charged with theft of motor vehicle and bailed to appear in a children’s court at a later date.

A 16-year-old Malmsbury boy has been charged with theft of motor vehicle and evade offences and will face a remand hearing tonight.
