A man is in custody following a serious alleged assault in Sydney’s south-west over the weekend.
About 4.40am on Saturday 11 July 2026, emergency services were called to Orchardleigh Street, Yennora, following reports a man was found unconscious.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 74-year-old man at the scene, before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command established a crime scene and investigations commenced under Strike Force Furena.
Initial inquiries have led police to believe the man was assaulted while on his regular morning walk; however, investigators have been unable to speak with the man.
About 8.30pm today (Monday 13 July 2026), a 45-year-old man was arrested at a Carlingford address and taken to Parramatta Police Station where inquiries are continuing.
Investigations are ongoing.
